Design-driven processes, methods and attitudes of design thinking are used here to solve discrete problems keeping in mind a specific design discipline.

Stand-alone projects are more effective if preceded by "design probes" activities. Stand-alone projects are preparatory to the activities foreseen in the "training" and "projects" sections.


Project deliveries are assignments assigned by third parties to be carried out with a design-driven approach. This offer method applies to project tasks relating to defined contexts in which discrete problems arise, that is, clear and delimited problems.

The intervention of the DRLab will have a resolutive character with respect to the highlighted problem and will be expressed through a collaborative and human-centered approach whose reference must be sought in the logic of the Double Diamond.

Steps for the application of stand-alone projects :

1. Discovery
In this the phase, the planned actions are:
• collection of information, inspiration, intuitions;
• identification of users’ needs with participatory activities, mostly to be developed in the field in direct contact with the actors of the project context.

2. Definition
In this phase, the planned actions are:
• definition of the challenges to which the resources, activities and design effort must address;
• summary, visualization and conceptual description to identify the essential elements for the evolution of the project on the basis of the data collected in the previous phase.

3. Development
In this phase, the planned actions are:
• prototyping, testing and iterations of the solutions identified in the previous actions;
• enhancement of all the activities for the creation of possible and plausible scenarios;
• inclusion and enhancement of error as a form of learning to refine the evolution of the most valid ideas;
• identification of ever better defined project paths.

4. Delivery
In this phase, the planned actions are:
• development and implementation of the previous phase according to actual use;
• implementation of the project output to the reference context.
